Everything not only seems to be different but it really is different. The rhetoric online is vial and extreme. Everybody is trying to out-do the next. Some of this behavior has transpired on LinkedIn. Politics and religion do not belong on the platform (disclaimer: this is my view and what I impose for this channel).
I will remain diligent with my LinkedIn content to follow the code of the platform. If I find connections repeatedly posting the content that has nothing to do with the platforms regulations, I will eventually block or remove them from my contacts. Keep LinkedIn separate from religion and politics.

LinkedIn is strictly used for exchanging knowledge, ideas, and employment opportunities and has increasingly become a leading tool for helping individuals expand their networks as well as find jobs in their field. I enjoy LinkedIn more and more but do not want the unprofessional content in my feed. I have over 6,000 connections and value those relationships. I learn daily from my connections and relish in their successes. Let's keep it professional.

Actions Speak Louder than Words

During this time of unlimited self-promotion people are making claims about their experiences, skills and capabilities. I am finding that a majority are making false claims as I do my due diligence to research what they are actually claiming.
I recently needed to reach out to my Linkedin network to find somebody with a certain experience and skill set for a project with our agency. Having a well developed Linkedin network, I knew that finding this person would be attainable. I then reached out and was disappointed with the response and interaction. I felt this person was definitely not the powerhouse I was looking for and wondered who is paying their unreleastic consulting fee because their pricing was not equal to their value.
As our world becomes more entwined with the ability to communicate to the masses via multiple channels, we must be even more cautious of who and what is real. Check your sources and be diligent about what this person or company is offering and always ask for the most current examples. Finally, expand your network outside of your industry in order to open your spectrum of influences, exposure and knowledge.

Expect 2 Connect - its Social Media, Right?
We now have "Like" buttons every where we visit. People have social icons on their websites, blogs and social media sites. Brian Solis unveiled his latest brilliance, "Engage" which as he describes is digital Darwinism.
People have these social icons everywhere which means "Connect with me" but fail to make the connection. I have experienced this lately with several people that I read their blog, tweets or LinkedIn post and felt that it would be a good connection (because they have these icons on their site with a follow me, connect with me, ect.) only to have them, not respond at all, "don't know you" (oh, you will!) or send an email saying, "remind me how I know you" - you don't yet, isn't this why you have your "connect with me" social icons on your sites?
The tools are simple - Connect with Me - the next step is to Engage with others. Yes, I know, the word Engage is the buzz word of the moment for Social Media BUT this is the most important part of the Social Conversation. How you Engage will be the next post.
